DUI’s not Pandemic Proof

Notwithstanding the fact that Covid – 19 has us all on lock-down, people are still getting stopped and cited for DUI … and the courts and the prosecutors are still processing DUI cases in real time.

Case in point: on May 16, 2020 at approximately 3:15 AM a King County Sheriff’s Deputy was driving in the City of Sammamish when he saw a red Subaru heading directly towards him in his lane of travel. The Deputy activated his overhead lights but to no avail. He had to take evasive action and swerve to the right to avoid being hit head-on by the red bomber. After the errant vehicle passed, the Deputy made a U-turn and pulled the car over … for obvious reasons.

The driver had the tell-tale signs of someone who was DUI, but denied consuming any drugs or alcohol. Undaunted, the Deputy had the driver exit the vehicle; the driver had a hard time walking, he staggered and he swayed. Upon request, the driver agreed to perform voluntary field sobriety tests, and to the trained eye of the Deputy – he did poorly. As sometimes happens in situations like this, the driver became monumentally upset once the Deputy started to cuff him … and in his rancor he made the poor decision to start physically fighting with all of the deputies who had arrived on scene (note to self – bad idea). Things didn’t end well, during the dustup the driver fell on top of the arresting deputy causing the agent to strike his head on the curb – he had to be treated at the scene by Eastside Fire.

The volatile actions of the driver did not help him avoid being further processed for DUI, and at the station he blew double the legal limit. For his bad behavior, the driver was booked into the Issaquah Jail – on multiple charges – yikes.

This particular driver – like all who are cited for DUI – is best advised to immediately seek the assistance of a reputable and highly qualified Seattle DUI lawyer. A qualified and respected Seattle DUI lawyer, among other things, can quite possibly save him thousands of dollars in court and insurance fees, the extent of loss of his driving privleges, and the amount of time to be served in jail. We have said it before and will say it again, Washington DUI laws are far too complicated for any ol’ attorney to handle. Anyone arrested for DUI (this driver included) should be smart and consult with a qualified and skilled Seattle DUI attorney when arrested for an alcohol and/or drug related DUI in Washington State.
