What week is it?? It is National Pretrial, Probation, & Parole Supervision Week!! The American Probation and Parole Association wanted to highlight those who work in our nations pretrial services so they created a whole week of celebration in their honor. This year July 18-24 is that week!

Court pretrial probation and service (‘PPPS’) departments are a critical resource for ‘clients’ at all stages of their court process. PPPS staff contribute to the supervision and transition of people out of the criminal legal system, hopefully forever. For instance, the Seattle Municipal Court PPPS department considers itself an effective alternative to jail. Counselors are paired with defendants to support them as they complete their court-ordered obligations, such as addiction counseling, mental health treatment, and other related course and/or community work. Probation counselors take pride in working with Defendants to address their underlying life challenges. The end goal – of course – is to help people move forward with their lives and transition out of the criminal legal system. Seattle Municipal Court buttresses the PPPS department with a Community Resource Center, which is a valuable resource hub offering connections to services such as employment support and housing assistance. All these opportunities are a fingertip away for those who find themselves in the Seattle criminal justice system, whatever the reason.

To those in our nation’s PPPS departments, SQ Attorneys says ‘Kudos’ … enjoy your week, be celebrated!
